To general football fans, this comment might translate the idea that a player named Chevrolet is about to leave Manchester United possibly during the upcoming January transfer window in the year 2020.
Other football fans might link the statement to mean that Manchester United might be banning Manchester United players and Manchester United from driving Chevrolet vehicles anywhere around Carrington ground or Old Trafford stadium in general. But a high percentage of Manchester United fans might have picked up the idea of Chevrolet, in this case, is referring to the clubs jersey brand. Manchester United has been a business partner of Chevrolet since 2012 with the deal costing the Chevrolet brand a whopping 64 million in annual revenue but making the Chevrolet brand a tremendous amount of profit in return. With both parties earning massive revenue from the agreement, the deal was initially set to last until the year 2021 with discussions over the further extension of the contract poised to be evaluated after 2021.
However, according to recent news regarding Manchester United's financial, the bond between the club and current major sponsors, the Chevrolet brand, is on the verge of dissolving rapidly. The reason for the popular American Automobile brand is seriously considering pulling away from Manchester United from a business perspective points to the fear the American has of Manchester United failing to achieve success on the football pitch recently reflecting badly on the clubs merchandise sale at the moment and as Manchester United move forward into the future. With the Chevrolet company standing as the number one brand represented by Manchester United, the company stands to lose a rate of £450 million translating to $563 million should the current deal continue to stand and the future for Manchester United unfolds without the football club successfully lifting any major trophy soon.
What will be the outcome of a dissolved partnership between a major financial contributor and a football club? one major possibility. The most important outcome to be concerned about will be the obvious outcome. Should the Chevrolet franchise withdraw their sponsorship deal with Manchester United, the Red Devils will have to find another enterprise willing to go into business with the club. While a majority of the audience will picture the idea of Manchester United finding other business partners as a financial supporter to be one easy task because this is Manchester United we are talking about here.
Manchester United is currently one of the biggest football clubs in the world. What company will refuse the opportunity to jump into business with Manchester United? Well, hold on just a second! Before any conclusion is drawn, let’s not forget the fact that this is a football that has been unable to win any major trophy in the past six (excluding the Europa league trophy claimed in 2017). While the idea of Manchester United finding another financial investor to possibly replace the Chevrolet company whose contract runs out in 2020, the Red Devils must clinch a Champions League spot by the end of the 2019/20 season to have any chance of attracting another business partners before the year 2020 runs out. Easier said than done!
As the countdown to the end of 2019 begins and Manchester United prepare to open the doors to the 2020 calendar, the current discussion around the football club appears to be slowly transitioning from talks on how the current season will end to discussions on what Manchester United's plans for to do for the 2020 January transfer window if the club aims to turn their current situation into finishing in one of the top four spots in the Premier League table. At the moment, manager Ole Gunner Solskjaers plans appear to be straight forward, stick with Manchester United's current group of players with an opportunity to promote promising youngsters from Manchester United’s academy always an option.
In further support of the idea of Manchester United expected to abstain from spending a high amount of revenue during the month of January 2020, should Chevrolet move from forward with the companies possible plan of withdrawing from sponsoring Manchester United next year, the club will automatically lose a large percentage of the overall net spending at Old Trafford. With a large net funding expected to be cut from clubs finance if Chevrolet does indeed abstain from their contract with Manchester United next year. As a result, the club might not only avoid signing players during the 2020 summer transfer window but might also be forced to sell one or two superstars with expired contracts in 2020 to balance the budget sheet for the football club.
The simple conclusion of the matter is this, should Manchester United fail to reach an agreement with Chevrolet company in terms of signing a new contract that will extend the business partnership between Chevrolet and Manchester United, the Glazers will be staring down the reality of losing 450 million in overall funding. The Glazers' have clearly shown consistent reluctance in investing massive amounts of capital into the Transfer window or reinvesting extra funds to maintain the services of a couple of Manchester United players on large wages with Spaniard Ander Herrera as a typical example of Manchester United players lost as a result of Manchester United hierarchy refusing to raise wages.
Should Chevrolet Ltd refuse to build a new deal with Manchester United by summer 2020, the Red Devils might be in danger of not only failing to sign new players but the club might also be forced into losing a hand full of the clubs' major stars sooner rather than later.
