MANCHESTER UNITED TALK -- TIME TO ADRESS THE POSSIBLE REASONS BEHIND THE RECENT LACK OF SUCCESS ACHIEVED BY MANCHESTER UNITED
Here is the thing with being a sports Journalist, to be a decent sports Journalist, three phrases will most likely accompany a sports writer throughout the writers' journey of creating consistent article- thorough research, understanding of how a specific modern-day sports genre operates – in this case understanding how modern football works- and finally having a good understanding of how what works for the team you are writing about which in this case happens to be Manchester United.
Here at Manchester United Channel, the simple understanding that the strong path to success for the Red Devils over the years has been implementing one simple strategy and that strategy is inserting two creative midfielders in the middle of the park for any formation the manager intends to implement. Sadly, for the past few years, Manchester United has steadily moved away from strategies that accommodate the presence of two creative midfielders on the pitch.
The thing is, taking a closer look at the current Manchester United squad, Ole Gunner Solskjaer can quite easily insert the presence of two dominant players who can impact the game in both the attacking end and in the defensive end. When a player has two top-quality creative central midfielders in Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba both listed on the squad with Bruno Fernandes operating best like an advanced central midfielder and Paul Pogba operating in the actual center of the pitch alongside a defensive midfielder whose presence will allow Pogba join in on the attack alongside Bruno Fernandes.
With Paul Pogba’s attacking quality added to the attacking mix, Manchester United starts to see more created goal-scoring opportunities as a result of the opponents forced to divide their attention between Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba which inevitably creates more space for other attacking players such as Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, etc.
This was a strategy that was constantly implemented by legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and the basic rule was simply to implement two creative midfielders in the middle of the park. These two creative midfielders will draw the attention of most of the players in the opposing team creating space for the Manchester United attackers. This was always supposed to be the reason behind the signing of Paul Pogba which is for Manchester United to get Paul Pogba in and sign a second creative midfielder which will take Manchester United over the finish line of becoming Champions once again.
However, on route to assembling a midfield which was supposed to be built around Paul Pogba and two or three other creative midfielders, Manchester United- through the help of mainstream media and through thoughts generated by the fan base (inspired the mainstream media) settled with the idea that Paul Pogba should be enough to earn Manchester United various trophies.
The truth is with Paul Pogba out of the lineup which left Bruno Fernandes as the sole creative outlet in the middle of the park for a long period dating back since last season, the mainstream media appear to come to “epic realization” that one creative player in the middle of the park is not enough to get Manchester United past the finish line.
With the notion of Bruno Fernandes not being able to carry the creative responsibility alone, the suggestion that other players currently deputized in central midfield need to do more or Manchester United might just have to deep into the 2021 summer transfer window to secure another deep sitting, creative, central midfielder to share the creative pressure with Bruno Fernandes should Paul Pogba leave in the Summer of 2021.
In other words, the struggle to find some creative consistency which Manchester United has experienced on quite a few occasions this season is not the fault of Bruno Fernandes but the lack of creative support deployed in the middle of the park for Bruno Fernandes in the absence of Paul Pogba.
Having established the fact that the recent struggles experienced by Bruno Fernandes as a Manchester United player are not the fault of the player but rather the reason why Manchester United have struggled to succeed lately is- partly because of the Center Back pairing at times- but mostly because the mainstream media and the Manchester United fan base have refused to admit that in other to succeed in modern football any team must have two creative outlets in the center of the park.
The possible reason why Manchester United fan base is refusing to alleviate the blame for Manchester United’s failure to achieve success on Paul Pogba and the reason why mainstream sports media across the United Kingdom appears to be consistently hipping the blame for Manchester United’s lack of success in recent on Paul Pogba is that alleviating the blame from Paul Pogba will further shine a light on a serious issue which has remained present, not just in Manchester United but an issue that remains present in football, for several years now- Racism.
Manchester United have certainly gone to some acknowledgeable length to turn their backs on the disappointing presence of Racism as the club continues to join the fight against any level of discrimination within the club through acts such as making sure that the club is actively engaged in the conversations involving discrimination through press conferences, conversations involving anti-racism which Manchester United has been very vocal about on social media and few post-match comments on the topic of discrimination when the topic is brought up.
While these are admirable steps taken, Manchester United must do more than just speaking up against discrimination. The best route to take might be for Manchester United to surround themselves with people who know how to gain success with adequate knowledge of how a football club should be run. People who are without any personal bias, people who simply get their heads down to get to work.
These are the steps Manchester United must take to distance themself from any level of bias while propelling the club higher up to the point where the club can start winning trophies once again. Hopefully, if the anticipated appointment of a new director of football does indeed happen at Manchester United before the start of the 2021 summer transfer window, the appointment might be the catalyst of a brighter future heading Manchester United’s direction starting summer 2021.
