PROVING THE CRITICS WRONG.

With Manchester United currently sitting in 5th place and tied at 47 points with 4th place fierce rivals (Manchester city), while making sure that the gap 3rd place team (Tottenham) and 2nd place team (Arsenal) remains four points and seven points respectively, it seems that the mood surrounding Old Trafford has turned around from agitated to joyous within the space of two months. While the season was approaching the end of december, Manchester United fans and players were facing some really tough times as the team was accumulating some bad results and unexpected losses. Losses to Norwich, Stoke city, Bournemouth, Southampton, Sunderland, Wolfsburg,, Swansea City, Arsenal and draws to Newcastle, CSKA Moscow, Manchester City, Middlesbrough, Crystal palace, Leicester City, West Ham, Chelsea and most notably Newcastle left Manchester United sitting in 10th place in the Premiere League table in the middle of the season.
It was not just the position
Manchester United found themselves in that bothered the Old Trafford board
members and fans. The main reason for the frustration felt by Man U fans was mostly
the lack of attacking football on the part of the Man U team. However, in the
middle of all the complaints from the fans about the boring football the club
was playing, Manchester United was still able to rack up enough points to qualify
for the Champions League as well as climb back all the way to 5th place
and level on points with fourth place team in the Premiere league table. Judging
from the team’s current run of excellent form in recent games and factoring in the
fact that the club is still missing some players because of injury, everyone
might start to consider the possibility of Van Gaal proving his critics wrong
about being the wrong man for the coaching job.
A short while ago,
Manchester United fans were spotted with banners promoting the campaign to remove Van Gaal from his managerial position at
Old Trafford because rumours had circulated that legendary former Chelsea
Manager Jose Mourinho would be taking over
as Manchester United Manager. These rumours took off despite the fact that
current Coach, Van Gaal, during his first season, took the club back to
champions League, improved the clubs position
in the Premiere League from 10th place to 5th place,
brought in quality players like Schweinsteiger, Damian, Depay and promoted some
quality players from the club youth Academy.
Manchester United’s last week’s victory over Arsenal has
inspired most fans and the media to change their mind about the club’s new manager. The Red
Devil fans watched the team outplay Arsenal impressively for most of the match.
Before the game, a good number of
quality players like Martial, Rooney, Schweinsteiger, Darmian, Jones, Fellaini
were confirmed to be playing while some players were missing due to injury. The
odds of the team beating an in form Arsenal team was nearly impossible but the
Red Devils came out of the match with a win and, just to prove to the clubs
critics that the victory over Arsenal was not a fluke, Manchester United
secured a mid week victory over another in form team (Wartford )this past Wednesday.
So the question remains, has coach Louis Van Gaal finally silenced his critics
permanently and has he won the fans over permanently with the recent impressive
results the team has been racking up recently? Speaking as a fan and a fair observer of the
modern game I think Van Gaal has made enough positive impact in the club to
remain manager of the club. I hope all the fans, as well as the the board
members of Manchester United have noticed the positive impact Louis Van Gaal
has had on the club and lets Van Gaal remain manager for a few more seasons. I
see positive things in the clubs future if that happens.
