BACKS AGAINST THE WALL DOES NOT MATTER
After Manchester United had a splendid
winning streak of Three Games in a row the confidence of the team going into
Thursdays Europa League clash would have been moderate and the fans were
hoping that the team would show that confidence by playing an open, creative
game and making life difficult for Liverpool in front of THE CUP at Anfield.
However, who would have expected Liverpool to totally dominate the game and
pile enormous pressure on Manchester United which would totally disable Manchester United's attacking force for most
of the match causing Liverpool to take control and win the game.
I’m sure that the most disappointing
aspect of the game for Manchester United fans was not that Manchester United
ended up losing the game or that Manchester United barely created any solid
opportunities in the match but mostly because the final result of the match was
2-0 in favour of Liverpool leaving Manchester United in search of Three
unanswered Goals next week at Old Trafford in the return leg in other to advance
to the next stage of the competition.
One Aspect of the game that stood out to
me was that the interesting substitution time the team used during the game.
Manchester United were down 2-0 courtesy of Goal from Liverpool players Fermino
and Daniel Sturridge, both goals coming during the first half of game. At the
start of the second half, Manchester united still had a good chance to at least
score an away goal and increase our
chances of advancing to next stage with a one goal victory at home in Old
Trafford, rather than introduce midfield due Ander Herrera and the returning
Bastian Schweinsteiger, Coach Louis Van Gaal decided to wait till the 60th minute of the game to
introduce the duo to the game living the
midfielders little time to influence the game and considering the fact
that Marouane Fellaini had already been booked in the first half one would have
expected the changes to be made in the start of the second half.
Rooney's Absence and Daley Blind in Center
Back was one of the things i thought went against us in the game. Rooney has been
out of the team due to injury for the past two weeks and Manchester United has
missed Rooney's energy, motivation and leadership in the team. Considering
Rooney's love and desire to score against Liverpool because Rooney has scored on
almost every game he has played against and West Ham it was clear that
Manchester United facing a big issue trying to replace Rooney's quality and what
he brings to the team. Although Rooney has been a big miss in the team so far,
I think Manchester United has been able to produce good performances in recent
games and if the come back draw against West Ham in the FA Cup is a good example
of the teams ability to produce positive results under pressure then Old
Trafford fans will still have hope of beating Liverpool in next weeks second
leg Europa League match, The FA Cup
replay game against West Ham and the remaining premiere league games. So smile
Old Trafford fans, the future is still`bright for the team and if there is
still any doubt of the teams inability to create and score goals for the team
without Rooney, well then Herrera and Martials combination goal against West Ham
proved that theory wrong.
