LUIS GAYA, ALDWEILD AND MANCHESTER UNITED'S DILEMMA

The summer transfer window is always an exciting time for football fans because the summer window mentally signifies two thing, team improvement and renewed hope for Championship success in the upcoming seasons. For Manchester United, the transfer is clear and simple, how can the Manager improve the squad to live up to demands of Manchester United's chief executives but most importantly, to live up to the expectations of the ever hungry Manchester United Fans. One way to get to a solution to fulfilling the demands of the Manchester United fans is to first ask the question: what do the Manchester United fans really want? Answer: To be the best, to be top dog, to be the best club winning a majority of the competitions around Europe. How can that be accomplished? By having a good number of the best players around europe. And that is where this summer's transfer window come into the conversation. The most important question which faces Manchester United is a question which a question Mourinho and Manchester United's main Chairman, Ed Woodward, must have an answer to before the end of the summer Transfer Window: who can the club sign with £90 million? The recent research around european football players wages suggest that 90 million can get you at least one decent player in todays transfer market. Well, to be perfectly honest, 90 million can go as far as getting any club more than one player. 90 million can get any club two players or three players in today's transfer market, that is a fact. But the question is, What level of `player will 90 million get you? That is definitely where things get a little more interesting for Manchester United football club. One of three possible targets have been rumoured to be Jose Mourinho’s last signing this summer but the questions surrounding Manchester United's power to make this last signing possible might just result to causing Manchester United's negotiation to last till the actual summer deadline reaches almost the last day. Alderweireld and Luis Gaya are two players making the headlines this week as the month of June heads to a close and month of July, where the main business for summer transfer window is seriously conducted comes into the picture.

But first, let us discuss about Manchester United's recent transfer interest Gaya. Who is Gaya? Yes, the defender who little is actually known about by Manchester United fans is suddenly making headways around Old Trafford after Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has recently set his sight on the 23 year old spanish left back as another possible replacement for Luke Shaw and as another player who can help strengthen  Manchester United's left full back position next season. Full name Jose Gaya made 34 appearances for spanish side Valencia CF of Spain last season in the La Liga and had an average rating of For a player whom has not made a huge name for himself, Gaya’s track record at Valencia CF seem to suggest that young spanish full back Jose Mourinho might have discovered to bring extra energy and extra experience needed by Manchester United's full back players. But Jose Gaya will not come to Manchesster United on a cheap price that is for sure. Seems the norm for football clubs owners and  General managers for other football clubs is that once clubs hear the rumour that Manchester United are interested in buying any other player from a particular club, the club in question tend to hike up the price tag on the player in other to discourage Manchester United from insisting on buying said player.

Gaya would cost Manchester United £30 million should Valencia decide to sell the Spanish defender this season. Gaya himself still has a five year contract with that will see him remain at Valencia for the next five years until 2021. So unless Mourinho is willing to pay the unreasonably high price placed on the player head by Valencia, the chances of Jose Gaya moving to Manchester United this summer can be defined as a slim to none Here are two good reasons why Manchester united will possibly miss out on signing Gaya this summer. First, the spanish international Gaya already has a standing three year contract with parent club Valencia CF which he just completed his first season with two left to go. In todays transfer market, convincing a player to walk away from a club who he has been with is such a difficult task for any club to accomplish, even a club as big as Manchester United. Now add on to the fact that, less than a year ago, Gaya just signed a new contract extension that means Gaya remains a Valencia player for the next 5 years and the reality starts to sink in that Manchester United will not be able to pull this deal off even if the club wanted to.

Finally, the reality is, if Manchester United are, entirely, committed to improving the entire back line this summer then the club has started of strong by doing an excellent job of bringing in young Diogo Dalot this summer but Manchester United have to realize that unless mourinho plans to use Fosu Mensah as an additional center back next season, signing one last extra center back would be imperative to Manchester United's Trophy aspirations next season. Yes Manchester United already have a suitable number of center backs present in the club, but looking towards the bigger picture in the future, if Manchester United hope to win as much european titles  as possible and still win the domestic Premier the number of center backs the Red Devils have in the club is one shot of the ideal comfortable number needed to be successful in all competition next season. that is were Toby Alderweireld come in once again. Alderweireld is a big, strong defender who is tactically sound when it come to delivering defensive duties. In, at least, his past four seasons at Tottenham alderweireld has played important roles in helping tottenham maintain or come close to the top four spots in the Premier League table. Manchester United had shown hints of serious interest in signing the Belgium center back but due to a lot of hard ball, stubborn,  negotiations by Tottenham  owner, Daniel Levi, Manchester United seemed to deviate away from attempting to sign Alderweireld. However, reports have started to crop up once again that talks between both clubs might have rejuvenated  in the past few weeks however Tottenham has still held firm of not parting ways with the Belgium below a given price that appears to high for Mourinho to reach. The reality also points to the fact that Manchester United fans seem content with the center back situation at the club and would much rather see Mourinho invest the remaining budget for the Summer Transfer Window in trying to buy an extra full back or an extra midfielder. 95 million is what’s left of Manchester United's Transfer budget, although the expectation is that with David De Gea’s new bumper contract, the clubs summer budget would have cut down to a possible 92 million. With two months still left of the Transfer Window, Manchester United can still cut a deal for the right midfielder or the right full back with a 92 million budget but if Mourinho is optimistic of getting the newly signed man into the team before Manchester United's U.S Summer Pre-Season tour, the business has to be done sooner rather than later.
