MANCHESTER UNITED MATCH DAY TALK

Victory upon victory and more victory has been the theme on Manchester United’s agenda for the past three months. Well, at least up until the dreadful date of Tuesday, February 12, 2019, during Manchester United’s Champions League defeat at home against a very good Paris St German side.

Blaming Manchester United Champions League round of 16 first leg loss against Paris St German solely on Ole Gunner Solskjaer poor decision will be an inaccurate conclusion to give. However, one has to wonder, given the amount of knowledge on how Manchester United enjoys loading the midfield with attacking talents, why would Ole Gunner Solskjaer decide to start last week’s UEFA Champions League match with two defensive midfielders leaving all the attacking creativity on one Paul Pogba. Fred Rodriguez is a player whom when partnered with Paul Pogba ignites the balance between attack and defense in Manchester United’s’ midfield yet the Brazilian playmaker continues to record very limited number of matches for Manchester United ever since he signed for the club in 2018 and questions as to why the Brazilian continue to struggle for match minutes despite lack of any known injuries remains unanswered. Prior to Wednesday's disappointing loss to Paris St German, Manchester United’s recent good run of results has almost completely erased the recent memory of struggle and of mediocrity on the part of Manchester United prior to the appointment of the clubs current wonder Manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer. Prior to this weekend’s big clash against a Liverpool side whom some continue to classify as Manchester United’s biggest rival Liverpool FC, Manchester United under the leadership of Ole Gunner Solskjaer has kept a continuing run of 13 matches played and two losses recorded in all competition and racked up a total of 28 goals scored and 9 goals conceded on average.

Viewing the above mentioned from the perspective of a club whom made such a massive turn around after a lot of active participation was done in the recent January transfer window would be a lot less impressive and a lot more understandable considering the idea that new blood, fresh faces makes a lot of difference in the progress of a football club. However, Manchester United did not recruit any new signings during the recently concluded January 2019 transfer window and instead the club has slowly embarked on the plan of resigning a lot of the clubs stars such as Anthony Martial, David De Gea into longer-term contracts with the exception of Paul Pogba who is also set, waiting and willing to commit his long term future to Manchester United. Positive attacking football on the pitch, complete commitment into Ole Gunner Solskjaer’ style of football from each Manchester United player, not to mention the continuously increasing positive results leaves one question left to answer: Has Ole Gunner not done enough to deserve the permanent manager job at Old Trafford?

Manchester United has without a doubt been breaking barriers on their way to the top four of the Premier League table but few spectators and analysts will deny that tonight’s match against Liverpool will be the ultimate test in determining just how improved Manchester United truly are under Ole Gunner Solskjaer. A point or more tonight and not only will Manchester United remain three points ahead of Chelsea but also Manchester can cut down the gap the gap between themselves and 3rd place Premier League table dwellers Tottenham by the end of February. Talk about a very impressive achievement from a man who most definitely deserves the job as the permanent manager at Manchester United.

However, tonight’s clash as previously mentioned is indeed one of the biggest, if not the biggest match that holds all the weight which will undoubtedly affect the decision of who the new Manchester United manager will be in the part of the glazers come to the end of the season. For Ole Gunner Solskjaer the plan tonight against Liverpool might just be this simple: Avoid dropping all 3 points tonight at Old Trafford against Jorgen Klopp’s men and the job as Manchester United permanent manager is Ole Gunner Solskjaer to take.

Look, from a passionate aspect, Manchester United is a club that has made a habit of relentlessly determined on winning every competition the Red Devils participate in. Premier League, Champions League, Emirates Cup competition, you name the competition and Manchester United will always arrive prepared to carry the fight to their opponents. Playing with high quality, high intensity and high determination to emerge victorious from every match is simply a quality ingrained in the mentality of Manchester United. Settling for mediocre results such as 1-1 has always been frowned upon by Manchester United. While holding such a high caliber team like Manchester United to the highest of standards is admirable, Manchester United must remember that one of the best qualities of a champion is remembering not every fight must be won. Some matches are about walking away after the final whistle losing two points but surviving with a single point in hand.

Manchester United have become a serious force to be reckoned with under Ole Gunner Solskjaer current management. From squabbling for a position below the top four prior to Ole Gunner Solskjaer control to grasping a place in the top four spots in the Premier League table, even if Manchester United’s spot in the top four is short-lived or not, Manchester United have certainly progressed under the Norwegian manager. So, despite whatever outcome tonight’s match has in store for Manchester United, the fact still remains that progress has come to Manchester United in the form of Manchester United’s very own legendary “Baby faced assassin“  Ole Gunner Solskjaer.

Ole Gunner Solskjaer pre-match press conference might possibly cover pressing issues such as not letting Liverpool gain total control of tonight’s match and wrestling control of tonight’s match will indeed be a very crucial part of the match for Manchester United. Jorgen Klopp’s men are prepared to operate in a relentless attacking mentality throughout the entire 90 minutes. Therefore, Manchester United have to be ready to balance attacking football with defensive mentality tomorrow night if Manchester United are to avoid relinquishing 3 points to Liverpool.
