MANCHESTER UNITED INTEREST IN MOUSSA DEMBELE REALISTIC OR SPECULATIVE?
Is Mousa Dembele truly on his way out of Olympique Lyon this summer or are the reports linking the French international to Manchester United yet another rouse done by clubs in Europe to use Manchester United and bump up demand and inflate the transfer price on one of their players in the transfer window? There might be a little bit of both ideas present in the case of Manchester United's reported interest in the acquisition of Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.
At the end of Manchester United's 2018/19 season, Manchester United manager took the podium during his post-match press conference and clearly outlined that changes will be made at Manchester United throughout the course of the 2019 summer season and the managers statement have predictably triggered countless rumors linking all sorts of players with a move to Old Trafford this summer. Some of the rumors have proven to be true. Some of the rumors have been very interesting and others have truly been nothing more than an unrealistic hunch. Manchester United are continuously linked with a move concerning various top quality players during the transfer window mainly because most clubs in Europe use interests in their players by massive clubs such as Manchester United to inflate the asking price from other clubs which allows clubs to sell players at a very high price. unfortunately what this method does to Manchester United is to increase excitement amongst the Manchester United fans whom inevitably mounts pressure on Manchester United managers and Manchester United board members to sign a player whom might not fit the Manchester United system after all. Sometimes these players end up not living up to the standards set at Manchester United. Sometimes these players go on to be successful in a Manchester United shirt, other times players struggle and end up leaving after a short period of time. Which category will Moussa Dembele fall on?
At the moment, Moussa Dembele’s football career has been soring on a high level especially considering what the French striker has been doing for French side Olympique Lyon. 15 goals and 4 assists in 32 matches in the French Ligue 1 last season not only contributed to one of the reasons why French side Lyon was able to maintain a top-four spot in last seasons Ligue 1 competition. While Manchester United's interest in the striker is a good sign of the high level of commitment Manchester United has embarked on to improve from decent performers into serious trophy contenders, they are still concerns as to whether or not Moussa Dembele has the level quality needed to succeed as a Manchester United player. What is known at the moment is that Manchester United have supposedly notified Lyon of Manchester United's interest in signing Moussa Dembele this summer but Lyon appear unwilling to sell the player any time soon.
Realistically speaking, the move to Manchester United this early in Dembele's career is, unfortunately, more of hope than reality from a Manchester United perspective. The French forward just recently signed on as a Lyon player and just recently barely completed an entire season with the French side. There is a strong suggestion from limited sources that Moussa Dembele`s name was added to the list of player Manchester United manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer had submitted to the Manchester United board of directors as the player with the level of quality needed to transform Manchester United into champions next season. But Manchester United is currently operating as a realistic club who understands there will be no gain in pursuing a player still on the first year of his contract with his club Lyon. At the moment, there is no mention of contact or agreements made between Manchester United and Lyon over the services of Moussa Dembele except for the notion that Manchester United will entertain the idea of having Moussa Dembele becoming a Manchester United in the future. Dembele's contract with Lyon has the French striker set to remain a Lyon player for the next foreseeable future. Should Manchester United be prepared to buy the player out of his newly signed contract, United will have to be prepared to spend at least 30 million pounds to bring the player over to Old Trafford this summer which makes the pursuit a little unnecessary for Manchester United perspective.
Rather than the rumor of Manchester United's pursuit of Lyon`s Moussa Dembele, the better talking point will be the clubs strong interest in signing Swansea City`s young sensation Daniel James. The Swansea forward has been making a name for himself during his early Swansea career amassing a record of 4 goals and 7 assists in 33 games during the 2018/19 season might not be the most enticing statistics to get Manchester United fans pumped up with complete excitement about the knowledge that the Red Devils have already closed the deal with Walsh side Swansea City for the acquisition of Walsh forward. However, Manchester United will take the decent record that the Walsh forward brings with the knowledge that the quality Daniel James brings will have the potential to grow in a Manchester United shirt.
15 million is the price agreed on by both Swansea and Manchester United for the transfer of Daniel James from South Wales to the city of Manchester and the quality Daniel James will bring to the Manchester United squad next season will possibly improve Manchester United's overall quality on the pitch.
