MANCHESTER UNITED CURRENTLY SITTING IN AN UNSTEADY POSITION

Romelu Lukaku sold to Italian side Inter Milan for a total of 65 million to convince Manchester United to release the Belgium striker during the final two weeks of August.

Romelu Lukaku is a quality striker and was definitely a vital part of Manchester United's system of operating during the era of Jose Mourinho but as Mourinho’s tenure ended at Old Trafford and the managerial era of Ole Gunner Solskjaer sprung to life, the system at which Manchester United-operated on the football field took a quick turn for the better and the future for Manchester United FC suddenly had no space for players such as Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Chris Smalling. Players whom according to their history with Manchester United simply could not meet up with the demands necessary for Manchester United players.

Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez have respectfully hung up their Manchester United jerseys during the end of the month of august with both players hoping for greener pastures as Inter Milan players. With the departure of Chris Smalling to the same Italian club Inter Milan edging closer and expectations of Smalling's exit from Manchester United expected to be made official within the next couple of days, in all honesty, the is an extremely high possibility that Chris Smalling might already have left Manchester United a day or two before this article is released.  The departure of these three players away from Old Trafford looks to have been embraced by some football analysts, accepted by some of the current Manchester United players, accepted by some retired Manchester United football players and certainly have been accepted by a majority of the Manchester United fans as a positive decision made by Manchester United football club.

However, despite an overwhelming acceptance of selling Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez by half of the Manchester United fan base, the other half of the Manchester United fan base have been left wondering how exactly the sale of two Manchester United players makes sense considering how poorly the recent past summer transfer window unfolded for Manchester United. Yes, the facts will show that while the trio of Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Chris Smalling were representing Manchester United football club, the trio would struggle to perform up to the standards expected from any Manchester United player, considering how little Manchester United achieved in terms improving the quality of the Manchester United team during the 2019 Summer transfer window, the decision to sell players who have a history of putting up quality performances as Manchester United players can be a bit confusing.

Nonetheless, the deed is done and the players have been sold, the relevant issue left to face will be how Manchester United plans to handle the rest of the current 2019 season? The debate of Manchester United having a strong team with enough quality to conquer the Premier League and subsequently the Europa League competition is, on one hand, a difficult debate but on the other hand a not so difficult debate. On one hand, the debate is difficult to win with a conclusion of yes because Manchester United can definitely win the Premier League and the Europa league competition. But to say Manchester United will become champions this season can not be guaranteed mainly because of the intense level of difficulty both competitions brings to the table.

As things stand, Manchester United are still uncertain of sealing a place in one of the top four spots on the Premier League table come end of the current season because the reality is that the level of difficulty attached to competitions such as the Premier League and other major competition around Europe continue to increase as each season passes because at the end of each season clubs fight to improve their teams performance by adding more quality players to their squad during each transfer window. Therefore, the only way for other clubs to remain relevant contenders for trophies in Europe is to make sure they invest in signing players during the summer transfer window. Manchester United was unable to at least one top-class player this past summer which makes the task of making the top 4 that much harder for Manchester United this season.

The situation in which Manchester United find themselves in a very peculiar one, to say the least. Here you have a team who had an entire summer to make major improvements to the squad that appeared held yet had signs pointing to cracks in the team that can hinder Manchester United's success as the season progressed. During the 2019 summer season manager, Ole Gunner Solskjaer had an opportunity to sign a couple more players whom might not be considered 5-star talents but these players can come into the club and at least make some creative impact in Manchester United. Yes, there is a huge portion of truth in Ole Gunner Solskjaers’ admitting that the real reason behind Manchester United's inability to at least one big-name player this past summer was because other clubs were simply unwilling to part with any major player on their team and hence Manchester United have found themselves in this current, uncomfortable, position of having 4 points out of the possible 9 available for the first three easily winnable games of the season.

All is not lost for Manchester United, however. Far from the idea in fact. With the current Premier League season just into its third week of the new season, Manchester United still have a long road ahead to steer themselves back to success and clinch the Premier League trophy or at least claim a spot on one of the top 4 spots in the Premier League table with the added bonus of winning the Europa League trophy will certainly make this a good season for the club but the positive performance and the positive results have to start coming in early to facilitate a positive end to the season.
