MANCHESTER UNITED DUO GRAB THE SPOTLIGHT IN DIFFERENT WAYS

The news around Manchester United has never been short of supply. Not surprising considering how widely popular the highly-rated football club from Manchester, England has become over the past decade and more.

Week after week, the public or more specifically the Manchester United fans have always been supplied constant news about what is happening inside the famous Carrington ground. Truth be told, the chances of having constant accurate intel on the activities of Manchester United football can be one of the most difficult jobs any journalist can have. Manchester United is a club that tends to do a very good job of keeping their activities outside the football pitch inside the vault.

However, every now and then, interesting topics about the football club tends to make its way out of the vault from the Carrington grounds and land at the feet of some journalist. This week happens to be one of those lucky weeks. As football fans prepared to turn their attention away from the international break which took place two weeks ago and back to the return of the Premier League competition which returned this past weekend, two-bit of interesting topics that accompanied the Premier League`s return was the news of a hopeful return of the long-time absentee Eric Baily and the surprising claim made recently by fellow Manchester United teammate Nemanja Matic. First, the Eric Baily news. Long-time absentee Eric Bailey had been missing in action for Manchester United ever since July as a result of a damaged knee ligament injury the Ivory Coast international picked during the clubs pre-season training.

Eric Bailey was a major contributor to improving Manchester United's defensive strength last two seasons under former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho and the expectation this season was for Eric Baley to take center stage in Ole Gunner Solskjears defense this season only for the plan to be stopped in its tracks with Bailey picking up a significant knee injury which left Manchester United no choice but to seal the deal to sign defender Harry McGuire from Leicester City this past summer. While the injury to Eric Baily was expected to keep the Manchester United defender on the sidelines for a little while longer, at least until the middle of the current season, the recent coming from Old Trafford suggests that the ivory coast defender might be making his return to action a little earlier than expected this season.

While some Manchester United fans are bond to question the impact the duo’s return can have on a seemingly effective Manchester United team, there still remains a strong possibility that the reintroduction of both players can bolster Manchester United on the pitch. There's little doubt that manager Ole Gunner Solskjears team have struggled to find stability during some matches this season and with the return of a talented player such as Nemanja Matic scheduled to return to action in the Manchester United midfield, the Red Devils might be much more confident in playing a stronger attacking game knowing full well that the team has a steady, defensive-minded, player such as Nemanja Matic to act as a 5th defender for Manchester United. Matic has been sidelined ever since July and is yet to make a single start so far this season for Manchester United.

The conversation around Manchester United continue to suggest that Nemanja Matic will be leaving Manchester United to come January 2020, the biggest challenge at the moment for Ole Gunner Solskjaer points to how Ole Gunner Solskjaer can fit Nemanja Matic into a team set up to operate with Pace and quickness? Solskjaer had hinted on the possibility of having limited match minutes for some players during a press conference held earlier this season but that was before of both Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku signed for  Italian side Inter Milan plus with Brazilan midfielder Fred still missing in action, Nemanja Matic certainly has a valid reason to question why his name remains absent in the matchday squad so far this season.

With Manchester United currently stuck on a little bit of a struggling period for the season, manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer will need to make sure his current batch of healthy players do not fall victim to the pressure and anxiety of playing matches and the demand of winning almost every single match in a season. A demand which naturally comes with playing for Manchester United football club. Make no mistake about this, the absence of both Nemanja Matic and Eric Bailey has had a major impact on the level of performance Manchester United has been able to put out on the field this season.

However, the challenge for Manchester United will be to find a way to operate efficiently with either or both Eric Bailey and Nemanja Matic absent from the recent upcoming matchday squad. So far this season, Manchester United is yet to hit the top gear we saw from the Red Devils at the beginning of the season with Manchester United securing an impressive 4-0 victory against Chelsea. After the result, Manchester United appear to be stuck in this limbo centered on playing struggling football and failing to secure a single victory in their last three matches.

The return of Eric Bailey and Nemanja Matic can not come soon enough as far as boosting the quality of performance on the pitch but as far as the near future is concerned, Manchester United have to find a way to secure victories in their next five upcoming games. Manchester United might not view the return of Nemanja Matic in the starting IX as a major improvement in terms of creativity in the midfield but one aspect of the midfield that might improve with the presence of a player like Nemanja Matic will undoubtedly be the level of stability in the center of the park.
