MANCHESTER UNITEDS ABILITY TO SUCCESSFULLY WIN MAJOR TROPHIES THIS SEASON IN DOUBT DUE TO QUESTIONABLE DECISIONS

The manager to blame or the players to blame? That is the question that takes center stage in this weeks topic centered on Manchester United.

While the Red Devils have started the season off in delightful fashion grabbing 8 out of 15 points so far in the season, few signs suggest not all of the Manchester United supporters is completely comfortable in the clubs current fourth-place position in the Premier League table.  having witnessed Manchester United fail to win the Premier League trophy even after recording a strong winning start under previous manager some writers, sports analysts, supporters and even a few football players remain skeptical of Manchester United's ability to lift the Premier League trophy come to the end of the current season. One such player is Machester United Serbian veteran, Nemanja Matic.

According to sources such as the Evening Standard and a few other reliable sources, the Serbian midfielder believes that Manchester United currently have enough quality players on the team to challenge for the top four spot on the Premier League competition and even lift the Premier League trophy and even win the Premier League trophy but only current Manchester United manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer chooses to deploy the right tactics and the right players at the right matches this seasons.

Speaking during an interview conducted in the early weeks of September 2019, Matic was very open to giving his opinion on the implications of Manchester United failing to win the Premier League trophy at the end of the current season. Speaking on an interview conducted on the early month of September, the Serbian midfielder had this to say in regards to Manchester United's trophy aspirations this season :

"The coach must opt for the team that will fight for the title and if he does not win, he bears the responsibility," "I have been in football for a long time, I have played almost all the games for all the clubs in the last 10 years. For me to play, one had to sit on the bench and accept that fact, and so do I now."

While a lot of Manchester United fans might disagree with the Serbian midfielder's comments stating that the team selected by manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer has so far registered 8 out of the available 15 points and playing some good football to start the season, there is an argument to be made that playing the same starting eleven-week after week 5 games running might leave the players vulnerable to injuries come the all-important middle of the season. Nemanja Matic also went on to say :

"In the first two or three games, he picked the team without me," Matic, 31, added.
"I work as hard as I can. We respect the decision, it's up to me to show him that he was wrong and to bring me back to where I belong.
"There is no problem. I told him I disagreed with him but that he had to decide the team."

(Nemanja Matic, Evening Standard. 5 Sep 2019)

Although the Serbian midfielders ability to be a team play is commendable, there has to be a little concern on how the recent lack of match minute distribution around the entire team can affect the entire team down the stretch in the current season. With barely a month gone in the current season where one regular premier league season sees a total of nine months of intense football being played, the expectation will be that a lot of fatigue will be experienced by the players as the season wears. The reality of the situation facing Manchester United at the moment is that the Red Devil does not have enough creative dept in their current team to go on a deep, successful, run for one of the top four spots in the Premier League table if one of the main players in the Manchester United is out due to injury or fatigue.

Manchester United have already witnessed players whom can make a positive impact on matches such as Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Fred all missing games so far this season due to various injuries or fatigues making the need for a Premier League experienced player such as Nemanja Matic a necessity to Ole Gunner Solskjaers plans for success this season. The situation with Nemanja Matic as a Manchester United player continues to look like a very complex situation. While a number of the Manchester United fans and a number of Premier League analysts continue to find faults in the type of slow, rigid looking method of football the Serbian injects in the Manchester United midfield each game Nemanja Matic has played for the Red Devils this season, there can little debate that the one quality the Serbian midfielder brings to the Manchester United midfield is that defensive shield sitting in front of the Manchester United defense making Nemanja Matic a valuable asset to the Manchester United team and to Manchester United's trophy aspirations this 2019/20 season.

Inconclusion, while some Manchester United fans and indeed some Premier League have questioned the contributions to helping Manchester United's strong attempts to win trophies this season, the one Nemanja Matic will bring to such a young Manchester United midfield is solid defensive quality and a leadership role. While Paul Pogba and Scott Mctominar have done a good job in the Manchester United midfield so far this season, there is a possible debate the idea that the Manchester United team can operate more efficiently with the presence of a solid defensive player such as Nemanja Matic implementing a rigid defense allowing the Manchester United attack to flow efficiently without too much defensive concern.

Matic appears to be a necessary player to Manchester United's midfield strength especially because Manchester United's midfield is built around two defensive midfielders. However, as far as the question of how far Solskjaer can get with his current midfield without experienced players such as Matic in the lineup for a respectable amount of games, the answer will be seen at the end of the current season.
