MANCHESTER UNITED ON THE BRINK OF BREAKING A RELEVANT RECORD FOR THE SEASON

Back to back victories on the card for Manchester United by the end of next weekend perhaps? That will be the most fitting result for the superb Manchester United team. Well here is the thing with Manchester United, ever since the year 2013 the “superb” Red Devils have seriously lacked signs of showing just how superb the Manchester United team have been known to be on the football pitch.

The fact is looking back eight years ago comparing the quality displayed on the pitch by the Manchester United team under managers such as Matt Busby, Ron Atkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson and comparing their level of quality to the level of quality displayed by the Manchester United team under the last four recent managers of David Moyes, Jose Mourinho, Louis Van Gaal and Ole Gunner Solskjaer there is little doubt that the level of confidence shown towards the Manchester United team to pull off convincing, confident victories has depleted drastically. While last season saw Manchester United end up 6th in the Premier League table an end that seemed near impossible to achieve before Solskjaers tenure as interim manager last season, the intriguing record that stood out last season and the record which has unfortunately stuck with Manchester United even as the 2019/20 mid-season make an entrance is Manchester United's inability to maintain back to back victories on multiple matches.

As of today, Manchester United has maintained a record of zero back to back victories in this season's Premier League campaign maintaining a record of either winning one game and then subsequently dropping points in the next two games. While the consistent form of gaining massive three points in one game and then dropping points in the next two games would not be considered too bad if the points dropped so far was either a single point coming through a draw or dropping three points against top 6 teams such as Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Chelsea, etc, the picture gets smeared even further for Manchester United when the statistics so far this season reveals that Manchester United have dropped a majority of their points this season to mid-table teams. Yes, there is room for excuses from manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer if the manager presents the case of not being able to sign the right level of quality players he wanted in the summer but looking at the teams Manchester United have come up against since the start of the season the point of Manchester United rightly dropping at least 16 points already season by conceding draws and losses sometimes on a back to back bases becomes difficult to justify.

The truth is that for any club involved in the premier league competition it’s very difficult to hear the manager of the club come out in an open interview and admit that the clubs chances of winning the Premier League trophy are completely non existant for the remainder of the current season but that is the reality that hit Manchester United supporters after last week Friday pre-match interview with Ole Gunner Solskjaer. While the contents of the interview might hit a couple of Manchester United fans as a sad reality the basic reality is that when anyone makes good annalizes of the 2019/20 Premier League table Manchester United automatically became non-contenders as far back as possibly late October 2019. However, should Manchester United continue with the teams current ongoing good form of conceding just a single loss in the last 4 game and avoiding dropping more than one point for the rest of the season Solskjaer might still squeeze in to one of the top 4 spots in the Premier League table or at least finish 5th this season.

A place in the top 4 spots in the Premier League table is gone and nonexistent at this point in time in the season was just part of the message received from Ole Gunner Solsskjaer during his pre-match press conference held on Friday, November 8, 2019. Prior to the current two weeks international break taking place, the Manchester United manager had the opportunity to answer a few questions coming from different journalists this past week and while the questions asked were very interesting one question stood out which had to do with whether the Manchester United manager believed Manchester United's opportunity to secure a place in the top 4 was over realistically to which the Solskjer gave an honest yet interesting response. Interesting in the sense that the comment might come off as contradicting the optimistic message managers are expected to transmit but contradictory because the comments although they might be negative appear more and more honest as the current season continues.

Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal all comfortably  occupying each of the top four spots of the Premier League table and also considering the facts that the midway point of the season has already arrived with Manchester United now 10 points adrift of the top four spots in the Premier League table as December approaches, unless a miracle happens, the fact is that Manchester United hopes of making the top four are statistically over. Analyzing the level of quality found in the current top four teams and comparing the number of games of changing players currently in Manchester United the ultimate conclusion points to manager Ole Gunner Solskjaers deduction of top four being over being accurate.

The dream of making the top 4 might be gone for the season for Manchester United, however, the decision of what level to play with for the rest of the season still lies with Manchester United. Manchester United has been unfortunate when it comes to sealing back victories which have played a major factor in the clubs downfall but the next few months is an opportunity to break the unfortunate record.
