MANCHESTER UNITED TALK : A CLUB NOW BUILT FOR SUCCESS OR A CLUB STILL NOT QUITE THE COMPLETE PRODUCT ?

The January transfer window has come and has passed. The outcome of the January window appears to be that few clubs around England have maximized the January transfer window to its full extent by making one or two signings who will undoubtedly improve the general performance level of said team in the closing stages of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

During the recently closed 2020 January transfer window Chelsea, Leicester City, and Manchester City appear to be the clubs amoungst the top-four Premier League table clubs who were active in the January transfer window with at least two signings completed by each club on January 2020. Other Premier League clubs whom had a couple of business done in January 2020 appear to be clubs outside the top five in the Premier League table such as Arsenal, Bournemouth, Brighton, Everton e.t.c as some teams prepare to put on a massive effort to secure a spot in the top four of the Premier League table while other clubs currently sitting near the bottom half of the Premier League table prepare to battle to avoid relegation.

With the 2019/20 Premier League competition expected to grow even tougher as the season draws to a close, the battle for top four might evidently go down to wire with gaps between all top 5 teams in the  Premier League in small margins, the 3rd and 4th spots remain open and achievable for any team willing to step up and take the either spot from current dwellers Leicester City and Chelsea. The big question is can Manchester United be that team? At the moment, the answer appears to be inconclusive.

Rocky season, shaky season, uncomfortable season. These are just some adjectives that blend in with the description of just how the current season has panned out so far for the Red Devils. Victories and points secured against opponents such as Wolverhampton Wanderers, Norwich City, and Tremere might have jolted a little spark of that Manchester United despite the current depleted status of the team might have found the auxiliary power needed to make a winning run across multiple competitions in England.

However, recent defeat at the hands of Arsenal, Burnley, Liverpool and Manchester City in different competitions have allowed one important question to be asked at the course of each transfer window: can Manchester United really afford not to make at least one good signing during both the recently closed 2020 January transfer window and the upcoming 2020 summer transfer window. At the moment, the answer points to a resounding no!

Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, and Scott McTominar. Make no mistake about the situation, Manchester United`s quality on the pitch have been deeply limited due to lengthy injuries to a list of key players in the Manchester United squad. Certainly, the complete signing of highly wanted midfielder Bruno Fernandes which has now officially been confirmed as completed has no guarantee of possibly becoming the missing piece of the puzzle that will propel Manchester United back to becoming a team regarded as future champions.

Although, what the acquisition of Bruno Fernandes plus the return of key injured players will do for Manchester United is that the situation will allow Manchester United a much stronger opportunity to fight for and possibly secure a spot between one of the top four spots of the Premier League table. Most importantly, the impact of signing Bruno Fernandes will allow Manchester United to have a very strong platform to build on in Manchester United's quest to return to not just the UEFA Champions League competition next season but also a stronger opportunity of lifting the Premier League trophy once again.

However, the point has to be stressed that should Manchester United bring in Bruno Fernandes, which the club must have by now, Manchester United cannot use the arrival of Bruno Fernandes as an incentive to let Paul Pogba go in the summer of 2020. That situation will be the perfect example of taking one step forward and two steps back.

Securing the services of Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, David De Gea and now Bruno Fernandes. Say what you will about Manchester United but the truth is under Ole Gunner Solskjaer managerial term, Manchester United have slowly but surely built a team that is strong enough to go toe to toe with any big team across Europe.

What exactly does the addition of Bruno Fernandes mean for not just Manchester United as a whole but for the Manchester United Board of Directors ie the reputation the Glazer family has built for themselves from the perspective of the Manchester United fans?

From all indication, Manchester United board of directors appears to have diluted the restless frustrations observed from the Manchester United fan which appeared to have boiled over during January 2020. Is Bruno Fernandes alone enough to assure Manchester United of at least an 80% chance of making the Champions League next season as well as an 80% chance of winning the Premier League trophy next season?

With the recent addition of the creative talents a player such as Bruno Fernandes adds to the Manchester United roster, a strong argument can be made that Manchester United is now built for success to be achieved soon, a success that can quite possibly be achieved next season. But the point cannot be stressed enough that Manchester United must not use the excuse of spending 62 million-plus addons to sign a quality player in Bruno Fernandes as an excuse to sell any of the current main players in the Manchester United in an attempt to gain back some of the revenue spent on Bruno Fernandes.

Should the club take this route, Manchester United will realistically be taking one step forward and two steps backward in the clubs' attempt to return to an elite and successful status in Europe
