IS MANCHESTER UNITED'S ABILITY TO SUCCEED IN THE NEXT TWO SEASONS AND BEYOND NOT IN QUESTION ANYMORE?

The manager is to blame or the players to blame? That is the question that takes center stage in this weekend's topic centered on Manchester United. While the Red Devils had started last season off in delightful fashion grabbing 8 out of 15 points in the season, few signs suggested not all of the Manchester United supporters are completely comfortable in the clubs' fourth-place position in the Premier League table at the time. Interesting stance to take considering Manchester United had failed to make top 4 of the Premier League for quite some time and while a lot of Manchester United’s supporters viewed top 4 finish in the Premier League as a massive step towards accomplishing bigger success possible shortly, others inexplicably continue to view the growth and development rate clearly seen at Manchester United under Ole Gunner Solskjaer as inadequate

Having witnessed Manchester United fail to win the Premier League trophy even after recording a strong winning start under previous manager some writers, sports analysts, supporters and even a few football players remain skeptical of Manchester United's ability to lift the Premier League trophy come to the end of the current season. One such player is Manchester United's Serbian veteran Nemanja Matic.

According to sources such as the Evening Standard and a few other reliable sources, the Serbian midfielder believes that Manchester United currently have enough Premier League trophy and even lift the Premier League trophy and even lift the UEFA Champions League trophy but only if current Manchester United manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer chooses to deploy the right tactics and the right players at the right matches within the next coming seasons.

Speaking in an interview conducted in the early weeks of September 2019, Matic was very open to giving his opinion on the implications of Manchester United failing to win the Premier League trophy at the end of the current season. Speaking on an interview conducted on the early month of September, the Serbian midfielder had this to say in regards to Manchester United's trophy aspirations this season:

"The coach must opt for the team that will fight for the title and if he does not win, he bears the responsibility," "I have been in football for a long time, I have played almost all the games for all the clubs in the last 10 years. For me to play, one had to sit on the bench and accept that fact, and so do I now."

(Nemanja Matic, Evening Standard. 5 Sep 2019)

While a lot of Manchester United fans might disagree with the Serbian midfielder's comments stating that the team selected by manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer had at the time registered 8 out of the available 15 points and playing some good football to start the season, there is an argument to be made that playing the same starting eleven-week after week for an entire season might leave the players vulnerable to injuries before the end of the season. Nemanja Matic also went on to say

"In the first two or three games, he picked the team without me," Matic, 31, added.

"I work as hard as I can. We respect the decision, it's up to me to show him that he was wrong and to bring me back to where I belong.

"There is no problem. I told him I disagreed with him but that he had to decide the team."

This was the mindset of Nemanja Matic and the debate can be had on the question, was this the mindset of some Manchester United players at that current point in time? Most likely not. Manchester United at this current point in time can be described in two words – Steady quick improvement.

Before Ole Gunner Solskjaer's tenure, Manchester United could be described as an abandoned battleship that has great potential to achieve great success under the guidance of the right captain. While historic managers such as Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho gave their best shot at reviving and directing the great vessel that is Manchester United back to success, the level of effort and the high level of familiarity required to revive the high rate of success to be achieved at Manchester United required a manager who has a good balance between the mentality of an attacking manager, the mentality of a defensive manager and the mentality of manager who continuously retained the hunger to succeed. These qualities ultimately set the stage for Ole Gunner Solskjaer to step into and drive Manchester United back to the brink of success yet again possibly during the 2020/21 season.

Will the probable addition of players such as the next two incoming signings Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish boost Manchester United’s goal of becoming Premier League and UEFA Champions League champions even higher next season? Absolutely! But only if Manchester United do not subtract any main player from their current squad.

A massive Improvement, a major step up. Suited adjectives that will describe what Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish will bring to this Manchester United squad if both players do eventually complete each player prospected move to Old Trafford by the end of August 2020. Make no mistake about the expected high combined cost of both players because Manchester United will undoubtedly part ways with an enormous amount of capital, 200 million worth at the very least, this summer if the Red Devils are indeed headstrong on securing the services of both Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish to help bolster the quality to be seen in manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer's first XI.

This might potentially be the right amount of talent needed in Manchester United’s first team to see Manchester United climb the pinnacle in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League competition in other to be called duo champions once again. But Manchester United might be cautious and avoid getting rid of important players such as Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, and David De Gea to make room for the two new recruits Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish.
