The confirmed existence of the Co-ownership merger between the Glazers and the INEOS Group over Manchester United Football Club arrived as a result of a decision taken by the Glazer family back in the middle to late 2022 to dilute their majority shareholdings over Manchester United Football Club rather than simply relinquishing the entire shares held by the Glazers. Before such decisions had been implemented by the Glazers, the understanding had been that the option of completely relinquishing 100% ownership over Manchester United to the highest bidder was understood to had been a concept heavily considered as an option by the Glazers back in 2023 when an announcement of the Glazers deciding to relinquish their grip of complete ownership over Manchester United had arrived in 2023.
